1. Representatives from the Department of Transportation will present the following projects:
a) Ocean/Parkside Avenues Pedestrian Safety Proposal – Presenters: G. Hass and I. Wagner.
i. Potential modification to what was already approved.
b) Flatbush Avenue, Washington Avenue and Lincoln Road – Presenters: G. Hass and I. Wagner
i. In 2013 DOT extended the corner just below the gas station using truffle paint and delineators. There are tentative plans to make this permanent with concrete.
ii. Because the stop bar for westbound traffic is set back at the approach to Washington, aggressive eastbound left-turning drivers jump ahead of westbound through traffic, even though the latter has the right of way. DOT would like to discuss the pros and cons of adjusting the signal timing to prevent this.
c) Flatbush Avenue and Rutland Road and Flatbush Avenue and Hawthorne Street – Presenters: G. Hass and I. Wagner
i. It has been suggested to signalize both of these locations, not because of traffic (they are T intersections where the stem of the T is one-way outward,) but to provide crosswalks across Flatbush Avenue. The signal was denied from a preliminary warrant analysis. DOT has taken a closer look at the jaywalking at these two locations and will discuss their findings.
d) Empire Boulevard – Presentation team will consist of Rich Carmona – DOT and representatives from DDC and Consultants RBA
i. This capital project aims to make safety improvements at the intersections with Washington Avenue, Franklin Avenue and also Utica Avenue
