1. Public hearing on Community Board 9's FY 2013 Capital and Expenses Budget Requests.

2. Representatives from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden will present the plans for the new Kiosk Project that will replace the existing outdoor cafe. The new Kiosk will create a more positive experience for the Garden user, and will include general and signage lighting, as well as capacity for evening use. The design is being presented to the Public Design Commission. The Garden is requesting the Community Board's support of the project.

3. Mr. Eric Paulino, Executive Director, HRA Office of Child Support Enforcement, will discuss the agency's public awareness campaign to educate custodial and non-custodial parents and children on the benefits the system provides to them; and how to engage the system to help provide healthy child development and responsible parenting, as well as keeping children and families out of poverty.

4. Representatives from the Department of Transportation will present the Bike Share Program to the community - "Bike Share is a new form of transportation that will help connect New Yorkers to their own neighborhoods, to other neighborhoods, and to public transit. It will also make New York a much healthier, cleaner, greener and safer place."

A joint meeting of the ULURP, Transportation and Housing Committees has been scheduled to discuss the Department of City Planning’s proposal for a citywide text amendment to the Zoning Resolution to require indoor bicycle parking in new multi-family residential, community facility, and commercial buildings. The proposed text amendment would provide for bicycle parking both at home and in the workplace, with standards that serve the needs of cyclists while providing flexibility to accommodate the needs of development.

The purpose of the proposed amendment is to promote bicycling as a sustainable form of transportation, which is part of the Mayor’s PlaNYC 2030 proposal.

Ms. Stephanie Elson, Director of Programs for Design Trust for Public Space will present information on the international ideas competition “Reinventing Grand Army Plaza”, launched with the Grand Army Plaza Coalition to generate new visions for the Plaza’s design. Top submissions to the competition will be exhibited in Grand Army Plaza in September 2008.

2. Veterans are especially invited to hear Ms. Olivia Morales, Librarian with the Brooklyn Public Library on the Library’s participation in the “Veterans Oral History Project”, to raise awareness of veterans issues and experiences. A team of librarians will be collecting and recording stories of veterans. Interviews can be conducted anywhere the veteran chooses. These interviews will be archived in the Brooklyn collection at the main Library, Grand Army Plaza and will be available to Brooklynites for generations to come. A copy will also be stored at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.

 Restore funding to reopen all firehouses

 Purchase generator for Battalion 38 Firehouses
 Fund renovations to create fire department learning centers

Fire Department – Expense

 Provide funding to purchase 10,000 CPR kits
 Fund a program for the distribution of 10,000 smoke alarms and 10,000 smoke detectors to the community
 Expand the agency’s public safety education teams
 Improve staffing for fire safety houses
 Enhance the Juvenile Firesetters Prevention program
 Restore contingent of Fire Marshals to full strength

 Acquire property at 445 Empire Boulevard to provide off-street parking for the 71 Precinct

Ms. Lauren George, Citizens Committee for New York City (CCNYC) will speak about their “New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods” grants and to encourage participation in Citizens Committee for New York City’s annual Neighborhood Quality of Life Survey. CCNYC is a non-profit organization with a 30-year history, works to stimulate and support self-help and civic action to improve quality of life in New York City and its neighborhoods

1. MTA New York City Transit, the New York City Department of Transportation and the New York State Department of Transportation have undertaken the New York City Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. Among the five routes selected for BRT demonstration projects is the Nostrand Avenue Corridor (B44 Bus Route). Representatives of MTA-NYCT, and the DOT will discuss the goals of the BRT project which are to introduce a new, high performance transit option for New York City and to improve the speed, performance, and appeal of bus service on key corridors around New York City.

2. Mr. Scot D. Medbury, President of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden will bring to the community information on the exciting programming and activities available to the public at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

3. Hearing on notification received from Women’s League Community Residences, Inc., of their interest and intent, under the auspicies of the New York State Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, to establish a residence for six (6) developmentally disabled young women, at 554 Crown Street, Brooklyn, NY, within Community District 9.

The SmartCPR Trial is an international, randomized pre-hospital trial that will compare a new automated external defibrillator (AED) technology to the technology currently used by the FDNY and other EMS agencies around the world. Dr. John Friese, Office of Medical Affairs, FDNY will advise the community on the existence and nature of the study.
